Saikou - success stories
“Saikou is incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and communicative. He’s an absolute delight, full of vibrant energy and kindness.” - Laura Resau, June 26, 2025
“Highlighting what makes Saikou, known as “American boy” by his friends, special and unique is his joy, contagious laughter and fun way of building the day that he didicates exclusively to you. In a moment his closeness and care make you feel at home. I did a cooking workshop in which we enjoyed one of the most representative dishes of Casamance cuisine Thieboudieune (Chebu Jen), drinking Bissap the national drink of Senegal and to finish a good Attaya, the best tea, symbol of hospitality, friendship and community. I laughed so much!!! We had a great time, full happiness by his side!!! With Saikou Tours you are guaranteed to live an unforgettable experience. He put his heart in it. Great person and best doing his job. I recommend it 100%.” Maribela - May 11, 2025
“I was in Abene in Tu Casa en Africa and I met Saikou AKA American Boy., from the first time I saw him I knew he was really good person, He was my translator in my job as a doctor in the Casamance. Since that I remember him as a good friend, like a brother of another mother, Thanks Saikou for all the time and the good conversations we had.” Alejandro - December 16, 2024

“ We met him after 12 years, he is a great guy with really goos English. He is honest, helpful en enthusiastic. Definitely a go guy if you need to have a tour through Senegal or The Gambia.” Jochem - January 5 2024
Thank you Saikou for a wonderful company during the travel the past weeks. You guided me around Casamance which is a beautiful laid back place. And you were almost as proud of your adopted country as you are at The Gambia. We also traveled to Guinee Bissau together to the Saltinho falls and the Cantanhes Park to see the chimpansees. You are a very cheerful company and therefore I was pivaleged to get to know a lot of brothers and sisters ( and real family too). But you are also a honest end openminded man. Hope to meet you again next time.” Michiel - April 1, 2023
“One of my favorite parts of exploring the area and being there was getting to meet and spend time with Saikou! He’s very friendly and kind and made our day awesome. If you are ever in the area, make sure to get connected wirh Saikou! 10 / 10 .” Matt - June, 2022
“Warm, friendly, trustworthy guide! Saikou is such a warm, friendly, honest guy who speaks English very well. I was visiting Abene for a few weeks and he picked me up from the airport in the Gambia and guided me. He also took me and a friend of a great trip to see monkeys and crocodiles and quick stop to his family home to show us real life in the Casamance. I’m sure I’ll be back to Abene at some point and will definitely be seeing Saikou again, when I do.” Simonthehippie, June 4 , 2022
“Saikou is truly the perfect person to give a real introduction to Abene and the Casamance region. From the moment he greeted us from the Ziguichor ferry, to dropping us three days later, he ensured that we made the most of our short stay. He is warm and welcoming, with an infectious sense of humour. The best moment of our trip was when he organised a fishing trip for us in the mangroves near Kafountine, and he was always willing to help us with a huge variety of activities on offer. We’d recommend him to anyone looking to get the real local experience of beautiful Abene!” Isabel W. - January 10, 2022
“All the way. The best place 2b. I like it very much and I was have a very good experience with the guide friend with much experience in life.” Robert, May 12, 2022
“As an American from Ohio, I visited Abene Village to attend drum camp with a master drummer and perform in the annual Abene festival. Saikou showed me around the village, introducing me to the local culture and attractions including a huge ancestral tree, a beautiful beach, local markets and nearby cities, meeting kind and interesting people along the way. I later learned that he has been welcoming incoming groups and showing them around the area for years. Saikou is a native English speaker and is fluent in the local languages as well. His fees are reasonable and his knowledge of attractions excellent. Saikou is jovial and beyond personable, you never have to worry about being cheated. I highly recommend Saikou as a tour guide. His guidance made my experience richer than it would have been otherwise.” Djembemuso - July 10, 2019
“Saikou was our guide during our stay in Abene. From the moment we arrived he made us feel at home and made sure that all our needs and wishes were covered. We had a motorcycle tour of the town and went for a swim at Abene Beach. He adjusted his program to our budget and this made the experience with Saikou one to remember! Tha fact that he takes amazing pictures during the activities made it even better!” Isabellmb - July 7, 2019
“Saikou is a great guide. He recently led a group of us on a walking tour of Abene, Senegal. He explained the village market, the craft centre, the sacred tree and more. Because he spoke English and French he also helped us get permission to take photographs of people. Very worthwile experience.” Peggy B. - July 6, 2019
